Dhaka: West Indies star Johnson Charles has expressed his determination to win the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) title for Dhaka Capitals, after being signed directly for the tournament. “I will play for Dhaka Capitals in this year’s BPL. Dhaka fans get ready, come to support us. Let’s fight together and bring the trophy to Dhaka,” Charles announced in a video posted on the team’s social media platform today. “It’s gonna be a blast.”

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Charles has been a familiar face in the BPL over the past few years, having clinched titles with both Rangpur Riders and Comilla Victorians. For the past two seasons, he played with Comilla Victorians, where he notably delivered a standout performance in his first season by scoring 79 off 52 balls, including seven fours and five sixes, to secure victory in the final against Sylhet Strikers. His pivotal century that season, a dazzling 107 off 56 balls with five fours and 11 sixes, helped Comilla chase down Khulna’s 211, ensuring their p
lace in the playoffs.

Despite not winning the title in the last season, Charles’s consistent performances were instrumental in taking the team to the finals. His BPL journey also includes a century during his time with Rangpur Riders, where he scored a century against Comilla Victorians in the second qualifier of the fifth season.

With Dhaka Capitals under new ownership, there is a high expectation for Charles to deliver explosive performances this season. “When Johnson Charles says, ‘it’s gonna be a blast’, you know something big is coming!” the team wrote on their social media platform, reflecting the anticipation of Dhaka fans eager to witness Charles’s fireworks on the field.
