Celebration of Durga Puja ends in Rangpur

RANGPUR, The five-day celebration of Durga Puja ended in Rangpur division peacefully through immersion of the idols in water bodies with due religious fervor and solemnity today.

The Sanatan community celebrated their greatest festivity of Durga Puja amid huge enthusiasm and festivities through performing religious rituals at some 5,500 Puja mandaps in the division amid tight security measures.

Tens of hundreds of the Sanaton devotees, mostly females attired in colorful dresses, today thronged Puja mandaps to have last looks at goddess Durga seeking her blessings for the well-being of the nation, country, its people and humanity as whole.

They also fed goddess Durga with sweets, put vermilion on her face and exchanged the same among themselves at the Puja mandaps which extraordinarily wore festive looks everywhere.

In Rangpur city, the district and metropolitan units of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) brought out the 'Shuvo Bijoya Dashami' procession from 'Shurovi Uddyan' premises this afternoon carrying idols of Devi Durga, other gods and goddesses on trucks for immersions into water bodies.

RpMP Commissioner Md. Moniruzzaman formally launched the 'Shuvo Bijoya Dashami' procession by cutting a tape in a colorful function arranged on the occasion there with President of district unit of BPUP Shree Ramjibon Kundu in the chair.

Mayor of Rangpur Md. Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa attended the function as the chief guest.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mobasswer Hasan, President of Rangpur metropolitan unit of BPUP Haradhan Roy Hara, its General Secretary Advocate Prashant Kumar Roy addressed as special guests.

High government officials, leaders of Awami League, its associate bodies and district unit of BPUP along with thousands of the Hindu devotees of all ages took part in the procession.

The Puja mandap authorities started carrying idols of Devi Durga by trucks and other vehicles from this afternoon for immersions into water bodies amid tight security measures.

The district and police administrations and Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) extended assistance to the Puja mandap authorities and BPUP in carrying and immersing the idols of Devi Durga into the water bodies.

Leaders of Rangpur district and metropolitan units of BPUP along with the Sanaton devotees participated in the process of immersions of the idols in the water bodies.

President of district unit of BPUP Shree Ramjibon Kundu thanked the government, local administrations and law enforcement agencies for ensuring complete security during the five-day celebrations of the Durga Puja festival.

Earlier, the religious festival began on October 20 last through 'Bodhan' (enlightenment) and the Sanaton community completed the five-day celebrations through immersions of the idols on the 'Bijoya Dashami' today.

Similar reports of celebrations of the five-day Durga Puja festival with immersions of idols were received here from Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts of Rangpur division.
