Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin today pledged to hold a free, fair, and beautiful election which will fulfil the nation’s expectations and enhance the country’s image on the world stage. He made this pledge in his televised address to the nation this evening while announcing the schedule for the 13th national election and referendum on the July National Charter.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CEC emphasized the nation’s strength rooted in love and sacrifice for independence, sovereignty, and democracy. He highlighted that the Constitution guarantees the absolute ownership of the state by its people, underscoring that elections are the only path to establishing this representative ownership.

The CEC expressed regret over the absence of quality elections that have frequently dimmed the nation’s traditions and collective aspirations. He referenced the mass uprising of 2024, which he described as pivotal in the current context.

Standing on the sacrifices of the past, the CEC made a commitment to conduct an election that aligns with the nation’s expectations and enhances its global image. He expressed his belief that the people share this commitment and expectation.

In his address, the CEC paid tribute to the martyrs of the student-led mass uprising of July-August 2024 and prayed for the eternal peace of their souls. He extended his heartfelt sympathy to all who suffered in movements aimed at establishing and safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and democracy, from the Great Liberation War to the 2024 uprising.

Concluding his address, the CEC wished for the swift recovery of the injured and their return to normal life.
