Chattogram: Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) has finalized the draft of Chattogram Metropolitan Master Plan (2025-2050) aimed at transforming Chattogram into a well-planned, sustainable, and modern city. The plan will be finalized based on feedback from the citizens in the next 60 days from Sunday (August 2). At a press conference today in his office, CDA chairman Engineer Belayet Hossain discussed various elements of the master plan.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the 25-year master plan encompasses approximately 1,255 square kilometers, including 41 city corporation wards and adjacent municipalities and upazilas. The CDA master plan has been prepared with the goal of transforming Chattogram into a well-planned, sustainable, and modern metropolis, the chairman said. He noted that the city's natural beauty and hills have suffered significant damage under the guise of development in the past. From now on, no construction will be allowed that deviates from the established design.
Under the new plan, electricity and water service lines of a household or institution will be terminated in case of any violation of the CDA rules. To facilitate this, a committee will be established in partnership with the ministries of home affairs, law, and information. The chairman also stated that one month's time has been allocated to remove all illegally constructed structures, including hospitals and educational institutions, from residential areas.
He expressed hope that through the collaborative efforts of all relevant service organizations, it will be possible to transform Chattogram into a green, safe, and beautiful city of international standard.
