Dhaka: The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today approved proposals for importing 115,000 tonnes of fertiliser and procuring the country’s 44th LNG cargo of 2026, aiming to ensure uninterrupted supplies of key agricultural inputs and natural gas. The decision was taken at the CCGP meeting held here with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fertiliser imports include 40,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser from Canada’s Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) at US$377.63 per tonne. This will be facilitated under an agreement between CCC and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC). Additionally, the committee approved the import of 35,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser from Russia’s JSC ‘Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg)’ at the same price per tonne, also under an agreement with BADC.
Furthermore, the government plans to import 40,000 tonnes of granular urea fertiliser from Saudi Arabia’s SABIC Agri-nutrients Company at US$430 per tonne for the 2026-27 fiscal year. This brings the total approved fertiliser consignments to 115,000 tonnes of MOP and urea fertiliser.
In addition to fertiliser imports, the committee approved the procurement of the 44th LNG cargo for 2026 through international Request for Quotation (RFQ) procedures under the Public Procurement Rules 2025. Aramco Trading Singapore Pte. Ltd. was recommended as the supplier of the LNG cargo at US$23.93 per MMBtu, ensuring the country maintains adequate supplies for energy and industrial requirements.
The committee also approved the purchase of 20 million litres of refined palm oil in two-litre PET bottles through the Open Tendering Method (OTM). This procurement, under the Ministry of Commerce, is valued at TK 368.20 crore, with Shabnam Vegetable Oil Industries Ltd. selected as the recommended supplier.
For the Industries Ministry, the committee recommended appointing MHI, Japan, as the technical service provider for a one-year Technical Service (Phase-2) contract. This contract, valued at TK 39.53 crore, will provide operational and maintenance-related technical assistance for the General Contractor (GC) of the Ghorashal Palash Urea Fertilizer project.
