Dhaka: The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today approved a proposal to import 1 lakh metric tons of EN590-10 PPM diesel from Mazda Oil Co., Ltd. to meet the country’s emergency fuel requirements.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the approval was granted during the 19th meeting of the committee held in the capital, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury. The Energy and Mineral Resources Division presented the procurement as a miscellaneous agenda item.

The import’s total cost has been fixed at Taka 1,757.942 crore. Given the pressing nature of the situation, the committee recommended executing the purchase through a direct international procurement method to ensure a swift supply.

This decision is set against the backdrop of an unstable global geopolitical environment, spurred by ongoing tensions involving Iran and the US-Israel axis, which have significantly disrupted energy markets.

The government’s intent is to secure an uninterrupted fuel supply and maintain stability in the domestic energy sector amid this global volatility.
