Rome: The Catholic Church in Bangladesh is set to host an interfaith dialogue in September, as announced by Cardinal George Jacob Koovakad. The announcement was made during a meeting between Cardinal Koovakad, the Vatican Prefect of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, and Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in Rome.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Cardinal Koovakad, who hails from Kerala, India, shared that the dialogue would gather leaders from different religions. The initiative aims to foster understanding and cooperation among various faiths within the region.
During the meeting, Professor Yunus emphasized the importance of ongoing dialogue among diverse religious communities in Bangladesh. He underscored the nation's dedication to religious harmony and highlighted the Interim Government's initiatives to uphold the rights of all citizens, irrespective of their ethnicity, creed, color, or gender.
The meeting was also attended by Lamiya Morshed, the government's SDG Coordinator; Tareq Ariful Islam, Ambassador to the Vatican; and Rokebul Haque, Ambassador to Italy.
