Dhaka: A case has been filed with Paltan Police Station in connection with the shooting of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson and aspiring candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency, Sharif Osman Hadi. Confirming the matter, Paltan Police Station Duty Officer Sub-Inspector (SI) Nuruzzaman stated that a relative of Hadi filed the case on Sunday night.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon, following the announcement of the schedule for the 13th National Parliament election. Two assailants shot Sharif Osman Hadi from a moving motorcycle on Box Culvert Road in the city’s Paltan area before fleeing the scene. Hadi sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Police have identified the individuals involved in the shooting as Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained three people, including the prime suspect Faisal Karim Masud’s wife, Samia, in connection with the shooting. The other detainees are Faisal Karim Masud’s friend Monika and his brother-in-law Shipu. These individuals were detained during separate raids conducted in Dhaka and Narayanganj over the last 24 hours, as confirmed by Wing Commander MZM Enthekhab Chowdhury, director of RAB’s legal and media wing.

According to RAB, Faisal maintained contact with all three individuals both before and after the shooting. Enthekhab Chowdhury revealed that Faisal spent the night prior to the incident with his wife in Narayanganj and left for Dhaka at dawn, later visiting his friend Monika’s residence. RAB also seized the motorcycle used in the shooting and detained its owner, Abdul Hannan, from the Mohammadpur area in the capital. Abdul Hannan was subsequently placed on a three-day remand on Sunday.

Sharif Osman Hadi is currently receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. Meanwhile, the Interim Government has decided to send him to Singapore for advanced medical treatment.
