Case filed against ex-BCB director Sheikh Shohel

A case was filed today against former director of

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Sheikh Sohel, 55, with Khulna Court on charge

of extortion of Taka 60 lakh from a businessman in the city.

The other accused of the case are: the then executive engineer of Local

Government Engineering Department (LGED) Khulna zone Abul Kalam Md

Anisuzzaman and five to six unidentified people.

Sheikh Shahidul Islam, owner of M/s. S R Traders of city’s Hard Metal

Gallary, filed the case against Sheikh Sohel, a cousin of former prime

minister Sheikh Hasina, as a plaintiff, Advocate S M Masudur Rahman, lawyer

of the complainant told BSS.

Md Tariqul Islam, Judicial Magistrate of Khulna Chief Metropolitan Magistrate

(CMM) court-1 ordered to lodge the case with Sonadanga Police Station and

investigate it properly, the lawyer said.

According to the case, the plaintiff alleged that Sheikh Sohel, a presidium

member of Awami Jubo League and also a brother for parliament member from

Bagerhat-1 constituency Sheikh Mohammad Hel
al Uddin along with his

accomplices extorted Taka 60 lakh from him at gun point at Sohel’s residence

in the city on April 23 in 2024.
