DHAKA: Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Friday addressed the recent comments made by Republican Donald Trump regarding the situation in Bangladesh, emphasizing the importance of transparency from the government’s side. Alam acknowledged that Trump’s opinions on events in Bangladesh “do obviously matter,” given his potential future role as a global leader. However, he underscored the government’s commitment to truthfulness in its communications.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Alam highlighted that Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has consistently invited international journalists, researchers, and experts to visit Bangladesh and form their own perspectives. This approach reflects confidence in the country’s society and people, allowing external observers to understand Bangladesh independently.

Alam further referenced the respected investigative outlet Netra News, which he praised for its work in debunking misinformation propagated by the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unit
y Council. He criticized the council for contributing to a false narrative about the revolution, particularly concerning violence against minority communities.

Donald Trump recently condemned what he described as “barbaric violence” against minorities in Bangladesh, asserting that Hindus, Christians, and others are being targeted by mobs. Alam countered these claims, acknowledging that while some religiously motivated violence occurred, these were isolated incidents that have been exaggerated.

Alam expressed confidence in the collective intelligence of the people, suggesting that the narrative advanced by certain groups lacks substance and will eventually be recognized as such. He dismissed efforts to amplify this narrative through social media and public displays as ultimately ineffective.

In response to Trump’s statements, recently appointed Bangladeshi Ambassador Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey expressed gratitude for Trump’s recognition of the need to protect minorities globally. However, Ansarey stressed the
importance of fact-checking to accurately understand the situation in Bangladesh, sharing a report from Netra News that challenges the claims made by vested groups.
