Candidature to be cancelled if violates code of conducts: EC Rashida

Election Commissioner Rashida Sultana has

said candidature to the election of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) will be

cancelled if he or she violates code of conducts.

“EC will take stern action against the violators of election code of

conducts,” she said while addressing a view-sharing meeting with the

presiding officers of the RCC election today as chief guest.

The Regional Election Office organized the meeting at Nanking Darbar Hall

aimed at sensitizing the presiding officers and others concerned on how to

conduct the election perfectly.

With Commissioner of Rajshahi division GSM Jafarullah in the chair, the

meeting was addressed, among others, by Election Commission Joint Secretary

Farhad Ahmed Khan, Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed and Additional Deputy

Inspector General of Police Naresh Chakma.

Regional Election Officer and Returning Officer of RCC election Delwar

Hossain and district election officer Abul Hossain also spoke on the

occasion.

Election Commissioner Rashida Sultana said they remained alert related to the

RCC election and prompt action will be taken against any sort of irregularity

and violation of code of conducts.

She urged the voters to go to the polling center in due time to exercise

their rights of franchise.

Four candidates, including RCC former Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, are now

in the election race for mayoral post, while 111 for councilors in 30 wards.

There are 3,51,982 voters to exercise their right of franchise in EVM in 155

polling centres in 30 wards from 8am to 4pm scheduled to be held on June 21.
