The leaders of the Federation of Clearing and Forwarding Agents’ Associations called off their two-day strike starting from Monday.

The decision was taken around 4:30 pm following a negotiation with the concerned officials, said Aktar Hossain, president of the Chittagong Customs Agents Association, which is part of the federation.

Earlier on Sunday, CandF Association announced a two-day strike on 30 and 31 January at all customs houses and customs stations from Monday across the country, demanding amendment to the custom agent licensing rules formed by the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

“The strike was called off after the NBR and customs assured us to meet our demand,” he said.

“The chairman of the National Board of Revenue has sent a letter expressing his interest in discussing our demands on February 7. Out of respect to him, we have suspended the strike,” added Aktar Hosain.

Chattogram General Secretary of CandF Association, Kazi Mahmud Imam Bilu said, “Some provisions have been included in the rules to oppress us so that we cannot protest their (NBR) corruptions and injustices.”
