Dhaka: The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has given the green light to two separate proposals for the procurement of electricity from power plants operated by the North West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL) at revised levelized tariff rates. This decision was made during a meeting at the Secretariat, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the committee approved a proposal from the Power Division to purchase electricity from the 225 MW Sirajganj Combined Cycle Power Plant (Unit-2) established by NWPGCL. The revised levelized tariff charge for this plant has been set at US Cents 4.513 per kilowatt-hour, which is equivalent to Tk 5.541 per kWh. Additionally, another tariff component is fixed at US Cents 19.298 per kWh, translating to Tk 23.698 per kWh at current market rates.
The committee also sanctioned another proposal to buy electricity from the 410 MW Bheramara Combined Cycle Power Plant, also operated by NWPGCL. The revised levelized tariff charge for the Bheramara plant is set at US Cents 3.7869 per kWh, equivalent to Tk 4.6503 per kWh. Another tariff component for this plant has been established at US Cents 16.8540 per kWh, or Tk 20.6967 per kWh based on prevailing market conditions.
Officials indicated that both proposals were submitted by the Power Division, and the committee has recommended them for final approval.
