Dhaka:The Cabinet has given both in-principle and final approval to the draft Special Solar Power Installation Act, 2026, which aims to accelerate the expansion of solar power installations nationwide.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the approval was granted during a Cabinet meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The draft law seeks to transform the already promulgated Special Solar Power Ordinance, 2026, into a formal act.
The Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Nasimul Ghani, informed reporters that the Cabinet cleared the draft law, which is now subject to vetting by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division. The Special Solar Power Ordinance, 2026, was initially promulgated under Article 93(1) of the Constitution to fast-track solar power installation activities.
Dr. Ghani explained that, as required by Article 93(2) of the Constitution, an ordinance must be presented before Parliament at its first meeting after promulgation. Following the Cabinet's approval, the draft law will be introduced to Parliament as a bill, and upon passage and presidential assent, it will become an act.
The Cabinet Secretary also noted that the proposed law would be subject to parliamentary debate, allowing for potential modifications if deemed necessary.
