CAAB Chairman Emphasizes Commitment to Implementing Right to Information Act

Dhaka: Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) is firmly committed to implementing the Right to Information (RTI) Act to ensure transparency and accountability in its operations, stated Air Vice Marshal Mohammad Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan today. He emphasized the significance of the RTI Act, 2009, describing it as a landmark legislation that facilitates transparency, accountability, and public participation in governance.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CAAB chairman made these remarks while inaugurating a day-long workshop on RTI, attended by aviation reporters at the CAAB headquarters in the capital. Air Vice Marshal Bhuiyan reiterated CAAB’s dedication to upholding the principles of the RTI Act and highlighted the importance of responsible journalism. He urged all concerned to refrain from publishing any information that may compromise national security, stressing, “The country must come first. We must work with that mindset.”



Discussing recent developments in air cargo operations, the chairman announced that cargo services through Chattogram Airport will commence soon, following similar operations launched from Sylhet. Additionally, he revealed that international flights from Cox’s Bazar Airport are expected to begin by June.



During the workshop, speakers elaborated on the proper application of the RTI Act, procedures for accessing information, and the significance of a responsible approach to information dissemination. Participants expressed hope that such workshops would raise public awareness and play a significant role in enhancing efficiency and accountability in public services. They also emphasized the need to sensitize government officials about the nature of journalists’ work and the responsibilities of the media.
