Dhaka: Chief Adviser and Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Muhammad Yunus, emphasized the urgent need to accelerate reform activities to ensure the timely conduct of national elections between December 2025 and June 2026. This call for action was made during a meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna, with two members of the Consensus Commission in attendance.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting saw the participation of National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz and member Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder. Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser (Consensus Building), Monir Haider, was also present. During the meeting, Professor Riaz and Dr. Majumder briefed Professor Yunus on the progress of the Commission's activities, highlighting that discussions are actively underway with political parties regarding the reform commissions' recommendations by the interim government.
To date, discussions have been successfully completed with eight political parties, and a meeting with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is scheduled for Thursday. The Commission members also outlined various initiatives aimed at gathering public opinions and raising awareness about the reform agendas.
Professor Yunus underscored the importance of maintaining dialogue with political parties and advancing the overall reform process to meet the election timeline.
