Dhaka: CA Press Wing Facts today termed a daily Janakantha news report that claimed 72 rapes took place in the last 65 hours in the country as incorrect. The official statement came in response to the alarming figures presented by Janakantha, raising concerns about the accuracy of crime reporting.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CA Press Wing Facts used its verified Facebook page to declare the report, published around 3:30 pm on Monday, as misleading. The report allegedly relied on a Facebook post as its primary source, which was criticized for its lack of authenticity.

The Facebook post in question purported that various screenshots of old news incidents were manipulated to create the impression that these events occurred within the specified 65-hour timeframe. The Press Wing Facts emphasized that this approach was not factual, thus discrediting the validity of the Janakantha article.

“It is unexpected and undesirable to spread exaggerated information and false statistics about a serious crime like rape, it creates confusion in the public mind. The interim government is determined to bring the perpetrators to justice in every rape incident committed in the country,” the CA Press Wing Facts asserted, underscoring the importance of accurate reporting in maintaining public trust and ensuring justice.
