Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today congratulated Bangladesh tariff negotiators on securing a landmark trade deal with the United States.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Yunus expressed his pride and satisfaction in a message issued by his press wing, following the successful tariff negotiations with the US. The negotiations resulted in a significant reduction of tariffs to 20%, which is 17 points lower than anticipated, showcasing the negotiators’ strategic skills and commitment to advancing Bangladesh’s economic interests.
The Chief Adviser highlighted the relentless efforts of the negotiators since February, navigating a complex process that involved tariff, non-tariff, and national security matters. He praised the agreement for preserving Bangladesh’s comparative advantage, enhancing access to the US market, and safeguarding core national interests.
