Dhaka: Alexandre Saus-Salas, head of Sourcing at C and A, met with Anwar Hossain, administrator of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), at its office in the capital’s Uttara area today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, C and A is a leading global fashion retailer that operates approximately 1,300 stores across Europe and is one of the major foreign clothing buyers in Bangladesh. The retailer has been sourcing from Bangladesh for many years. The meeting was attended by Shantanu Singh, regional sourcing manager of C and A, as shared in a press release.

The discussion primarily focused on the current state of the ready-made garment (RMG) industry in Bangladesh, along with global market trends and potential avenues for business expansion. The parties also explored possible collaborations aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the industry in the global market.

During the meeting, Anwar Hossain provided an overview of the transformative changes occurring within th
e country’s apparel sector. He emphasized Bangladesh’s leadership role in global decarbonization efforts and its commitment to ethical sourcing practices. Bangladesh is noted for having the highest number of green garment factories worldwide, with 230 factories certified by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) under the LEED program. More than half of the world’s top 100 LEED-certified factories are located in Bangladesh.

Anwar Hossain also highlighted Bangladesh’s strategic shift toward high-value fashion items, including those made from synthetic fibers, and encouraged C and A to increase its sourcing of such garments from the country. He informed the C and A delegation about the ongoing investments and developments in Bangladesh’s backward linkage industry, which supports the competitiveness of the RMG sector.
