Businessman shot dead in Narsingdi

A 45-year-old businessman was shot dead allegedly by some miscreants at Khamarerchar in Belabo upazila of Narsingdi on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Kabir Hossain, son of Abdul Hai of Khamarerchar village.

Deceased’s family members said the assailants attacked Kabir, a transport businessman, when he went to a garage for repairing his vehicle in Khamarerchar area at 12pm on Saturday.

Later he ran and came on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway where the miscreants stabbed him indiscriminately and shot him, leaving him dead on the spot.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body, said Safayet Hossain, officer-in-charge of Belabo Police Station.

The body was sent to a hospital morgue for an autopsy, said the OC adding that the motive behind the killing could not be known immediately.

Flood death toll reaches 82

Flood claimed nine more lives in different parts of the country in 24 hours till Saturday morning, raising the total fatalities to 82.

Five of them died in Mymensingh division and four in Sylhet division, according to the Directorate general of Health services (DGHS).

Among the deceased, seven have died by drowning in floodwater and one from snake biting and another died of other reasons.

The total deaths were recorded from May 17 to June 25.

Among a total of 70 flood-affected upazilas, 33 upazilas are in Sylhet division, 16 in Rangpur division, 20 in Mymensingh division and one in Chattogram division.

Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona and Kurigram are the worst-hit districts where 13, 11, 10 and 9 upazilas were affected by flood respectively.
