Bus-Auto-Rickshaw Collision Claims Three Lives in Rajshahi

Rajshahi: Three people, including a university student, were killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Puthia upazila of Rajshahi. The deceased student was identified as Shanto Islam, from the Electrical and Electronic Engineering department at Barendra University. He was the son of Abul Hossain, residing near the timber market in Puthia upazila.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accident occurred around 5:00 pm on Sunday in the Pollapukur area on the Rajshahi-Natore highway. Eyewitnesses reported that a passenger bus heading towards Rajshahi collided with an auto-rickshaw traveling towards Puthia. The auto-rickshaw was completely mangled in the crash, resulting in the immediate death of Shanto Islam. Other passengers suffered critical injuries.

Police and Fire Service personnel, upon receiving the information, rescued the injured and transported them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Unfortunately, a woman and a man succumbed to their injuries during the journey and were declared dead at the hospital. Shankar Kumar Biswas, in-charge of the emergency department at RMCH, noted that the bodies of the unidentified woman and man are at the hospital morgue. Other injured passengers are receiving treatment in the orthopedics and neurosurgery wards.

Officer-in-Charge of Paba Highway Police Station, Mozammel Haque, confirmed the incident.
