Cumilla: Five persons, including four from the same family, were killed and several others injured in a collision between a bus and a private car on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Cumilla.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accident took place in the Kalakachua area of Burichong upazila. Police reported that a speeding bus from Starline Paribahan, traveling from Dhaka, collided with a private car in front of Miami Hotel, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.
The driver of the private car died instantly, while four passengers succumbed to their injuries after being taken to the hospital. The injured were admitted to various hospitals in Cumilla, where four of them later died from their injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Jamal Hossain, the car’s driver, aged 52, and Abdul Momin, 50, along with his wife Jarna Begum, 40, their son Saif, 7, and daughter Labiba, 18. The family was from Sonaimuri Upazila of Noakhali district.
Abrar, 12, another family member, is currently receiving treatment at Moynamoti Army General Hospital, where his condition is stable, according to doctors.
Officer-in-Charge Abdul Momin of Moynamoti highway thana stated that police and rescue teams responded promptly to the accident scene and transported the victims to the hospital. An investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing, with legal proceedings underway.
