Dhaka: The government today appointed Dr. Md Sabbir Mostafa Khan, a professor in the Department of Water Resources Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), as the Chairman of the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) Board. This announcement was made through a notification issued by the Local Government Division of the Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Ministry.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Khan has been appointed for a three-year term under section 7(1) of the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Amendment) Act, 2026. Dhaka WASA is tasked with providing safe drinking water, managing sewerage and drainage services, and operating the capital’s water supply and sanitation systems.
The utility treats both groundwater and river water before distributing it to households through an extensive pipeline network. It also plays a key role in wastewater management, drainage, and ensuring hygienic sanitation services across the city.
