Dhaka: The technical committee from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and the Central Coordination Committee of Dhaka University (DU) have conducted inspections on eight residential halls. This initiative is part of a broader effort to assess the structural integrity of university buildings following a recent earthquake.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the inspections were led by the President of the Central Coordination Committee and Treasurer of the University, Professor Dr. M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. The team visited Shamsun Nahar Hall in the afternoon, accompanied by Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, the Provost of Shamsun Nahar Hall, the acting chief engineer, and leaders from DUCSU and the Hall Sangsad.
The inspections were carried out by various sub-committees, which included experts from BUET. The halls inspected included Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall, Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall, Sir A.F. Rahman Hall, and Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall. Present during these inspections were BUET Civil Engineering Department Professors Dr. Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed, Dr. Rakib Ahsan, and Dr. Nazrul Islam, along with concerned hall provosts, residential teachers, university engineers, and representatives from DUCSU and Hall Sangsad.
It has been noted that a meeting of the Central Coordination Committee regarding the technical inspection, evaluation, and monitoring of the residential halls and buildings is scheduled for tomorrow at 11 am. The meeting will take place at the Treasurer's office, presided over by Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
