Dhaka: Journalists' organizations and media outlets accorded a reception to the newly appointed Managing Director (MD) and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Muhammad Kader Gani Chowdhury, at the Jatiya Press Club today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event saw the participation of several prominent organizations, including the Jatiya Press Club (JPC), Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ). The ceremony was moderated by DUJ Joint General Secretary and BSS Unit Chief Md Didarul Alam, with key figures such as DUJ President Shohidul Islam, General Secretary Khurshid Alam, JPC General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan, and others in attendance.
Expressing gratitude, Kader Gani Chowdhury emphasized his commitment to representing the journalists and ensuring their deserved respect. He expressed his vision for a humane Bangladesh where journalists can work independently, free from repression and exploitation, under the government of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Chowdhury also shared his aspiration to restore BSS to its former glory, aiming for the agency to play a significant role in building a humane society with the support and advice of the community.
DUJ President Shohidul Islam highlighted Chowdhury's history as a trusted colleague and leader in the journalists' struggle for democracy. He expressed confidence that under Chowdhury's leadership, BSS and other journalist institutions would achieve prosperity and dignity.
Khurshid Alam acknowledged Chowdhury's leadership on the streets for journalists' rights and urged for continued support to uphold journalists' honor and reputation.
JPC General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan noted the unprecedented collaboration between the Press Club, BFUJ, DUJ, and the Principal Information Officer in honoring Chowdhury by escorting him to his chair at BSS. He expressed hope for collective efforts to rebuild the state-run institution.
The reception was coordinated by DUJ Executive Committee members M Mosharraf Hossain, Md. Nizam Uddin (Darvesh Nizam), and Real Roman, with the presence of BSS Managing Editor Md. Fazlul Huq, former General Secretary of the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) SM Rashidul Islam, and various media professionals.
