Accra:The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has issued a warning to investors regarding misleading social media posts that falsely attribute comments on share price declines to its chairman. The commission is urging all parties to verify information before sharing it.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the capital market regulator clarified in a press release that photo-cards circulating on social media, which reportedly quote BSEC Chairman Masud Khan on falling share prices, are entirely fabricated.

The BSEC stated, "The chairman has not made any such remarks," labeling the circulating content as untrue, baseless, and misleading. The press release, signed by BSEC Executive Director and Spokesperson Md. Abul Kalam, emphasized the importance of verifying the authenticity of statements, quotations, or photo-cards attributed to the BSEC chairman or other officials before publishing or sharing.

The commission advised investors and the public not to believe, react to, or circulate unverified information and market rumors spread through social media. It highlighted that such misinformation could cause confusion among investors and impact their investment decisions.

BSEC stressed that responsible information sharing and public vigilance are crucial to maintaining transparency, stability, and confidence in the country's capital market. The commission reaffirmed its dedication to protecting investors' interests and ensuring an orderly and transparent capital market while calling for cooperation from all stakeholders to prevent misinformation. Investors are urged to rely on verified information from official sources rather than unsubstantiated claims circulating on social media.
