Rangpur: After 17 years of its establishment, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) is set to hold its first convocation on December 20 with a colorful ceremony. Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali revealed this information during a press conference at the university's administrative building.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Vice-chancellor briefed journalists on various recent developments at the university, including the upcoming convocation. He emphasized that this event marks the first convocation since the university was established in 2008. Foreign Affairs Adviser of the interim government Md Touhid Hossain will preside over the ceremony.
Students from the first to 12th batch will have the opportunity to participate in the convocation by completing the registration process. "Students of the 12th batch who have completed their Honors or Honors-Masters both can register and participate," he added. The Vice-chancellor sought the cooperation of all university stakeholders and journalists for the successful organization of the event.
In response to a question regarding the Begum Rokeya University Central Students' Union (BRUCSU) elections, the Vice-chancellor stated that activities are underway towards that goal. He mentioned that the amended student union and hall union policies have been sent to the office of the President of Bangladesh and Chancellor of the university as part of the roadmap for the elections. He expressed optimism that the elections will proceed as scheduled.
The Vice-chancellor also mentioned that the university's academic master plan will be finalized within the month, with hopes for its approval by the ECNEC within the year. Professor Dr Md Tajul Islam, Convener of the convocation management committee, announced that the formal registration process for the convocation will be inaugurated on October 12, 2025, coinciding with the 17th founding anniversary of the university.
Registrar Dr Md Harun-or Rashid, Director of the Office of the Students Affairs Professor Dr Md Ilias Pramanik, Proctor Dr Md Ferdous Rahman, and university journalists were present at the event.
