Rangpur: Two residential halls of Begum Rokeya University Rangpur (BRUR) have been renamed following a decision made at the 110th syndicate meeting held at the university’s administrative building. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Showkat Ali chaired the meeting during which the renaming was finalized.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the syndicate decided to rename the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall as Bijay 24 Hall and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall as Shaheed Felani Hall. This announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor at a press briefing in the evening.

The university also plans to commemorate Shaheed Abu Sayeed Day on July 16 annually to honor his contribution to the anti-discrimination movement. While classes and examinations will be suspended on this day, administrative activities are to continue.

The Vice-Chancellor urged that Shaheed Abu Sayeed Day be observed across all educational institutions nationwide. Additionally, the university has decided to waive all fees for BRUR students injured in the July movement.

In further developments, the university administration will host a 7-day book fair every February in honor of Shaheed Abu Sayeed, recognizing his martyrdom in the July-August uprising.
