Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuj Alam today announced plans to modernize the broadcasting system, emphasizing that it will prioritize public interest. This statement was made during a meeting focused on the formulation of policies concerning cable TV digitalization, Television Rating Point (TRP) services, and Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms, held at the ministry's conference room.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Adviser Mahfuj Alam highlighted the collaboration between the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology in handling issues related to cable TV digitalization, TRP services, and OTT platforms. The allocation of responsibilities between these ministries is governed by the 'Allocation of Business'.
He stressed the importance of modernizing the broadcasting system through effective coordination and cooperation between the two ministries. A technology assessment plan is deemed necessary to ensure that the broadcasting system becomes modern and caters to public needs.
Chief Adviser's Special Assistant on Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb stated the need for developing a technology assessment plan to make the broadcasting system more accessible and user-friendly. He expressed optimism that both ministries would collaborate to make decisions concerning licensing, monitoring, and monetization.
The meeting was attended by Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana, officials from relevant departments and agencies, and representatives from the Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO) and the Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB).
