Dhaka: British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke today paid a courtesy call on Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma at his Secretariat office here. Various issues including implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord, strengthening the security system in the CHT, and developing the education system were discussed, said a press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Adviser Supradip expressed hope that the British government will continue to support the development of Bangladesh. He highlighted the interim government's ongoing efforts to ensure peace, harmony, development, and progress in the CHT region.
Supradip noted the population growth in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region and the challenges of integration with the mainstream. He emphasized that the government is prioritizing this issue and actively working towards addressing it.
Security in the hill region is of utmost importance, Supradip stated, ensuring that the free movement of people in the area is maintained. He also mentioned that several ambassadors from various missions in Bangladesh visited the Chittagong Hill Tracts in mid-April to appreciate the natural beauty of the region.
The adviser assured that the government is committed to the safety of foreign citizens, closely monitoring their movements each year. Senior officials of the ministry were present during the discussions.
