Khulna: Salman Emon hit a half-century following his century in the previous round, but his side Barishal Division was kept at bay by Rajshahi bowlers on Day 1 of the third round of the National Cricket League (NCL) at Khulna Divisional Stadium today. Salman scored a battling 58 amid his colleagues’ collapse as Barishal was bowled out for just 212 in its first innings. Rajshahi reached six for no loss at stumps.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rajshahi bowlers delivered a collective performance with Shafiqul Islam, Ali Mohammad Walid, Rahim Ahmed, Nihaduzzaman, and Sunzamul Islam all taking two wickets each. Put into bat first, Barishal made a promising start with openers Iftekhar Hossain Ifti and Zahiduzzaman Khan adding 62 runs for the opening stand. Ifti scored 40 while Zahiduzzaman contributed 29.
Nihaduzzaman Khan broke the partnership, providing Rajshahi with the breakthrough, and their bowlers dominated thereafter. Salman Emon offered resistance to reach his half-century, but he lacked support from the other end. His innings ensured Barishal surpassed the 200-run mark at least.
