Boro Paddy Procurement Drive Begins in Sherpur

Sherpur: The Boro paddy procurement program was officially launched in Sherpur Sadar upazila aiming to facilitate direct procurement from farmers at fair prices. Dr. Sansila Zebrin Priyanka, Member of Parliament for the reserved women’s seat, inaugurated the program at the district food warehouse premises on Saturday afternoon. The ceremony was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Farida Yasmin.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, key officials present at the event included Additional District Magistrate Md. Shakil Ahmed, District Food Officer Nazmul Haque Bhuiyan, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmudul Hasan, and Sherpur Press Club General Secretary Masud Hasan Badal.



The District Food Department has outlined that during the current Boro season, 2,946 metric tons of paddy will be collected from farmers at Taka 36 per kilogram. Additionally, 19,690 metric tons of rice will be procured at Taka 49 per kilogram, and 1,826 metric tons of Atap rice at Taka 48 per kilogram.



The program is part of ongoing efforts to support local farmers and ensure a stable supply of rice in the district.
