Sylhet:The bodies of Abdul Karim and Khalid Ahmed, two Bangladeshi expatriates from Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet, who were killed in a road accident in Saudi Arabia, were brought back home today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the bodies arrived at Sylhet Osmani International Airport on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight around 11:00 am. After their arrival, officials from the Probashi Kallyan Desk and other authorities completed the necessary formalities to hand over the bodies to their families.
The deceased were residents of Lamar Taluk village in the Gachhbari area of South Banigram union under Kanaighat upazila. Upon receiving the bodies, family members transported them by ambulance to their respective village homes.
Tajuddin, assistant director (in-charge) of the Probashi Kallyan Desk at Sylhet Osmani International Airport, confirmed that the families of the deceased have been provided with an initial financial assistance of Taka 35,000 each from the Wage Earners' Welfare Board. Additionally, each family will receive an extra grant of Taka 300,000.
Borhan Uddin, the nephew of Abdul Karim, stated that the bodies have been taken to their village homes. South Banigram Union Parishad Chairman Lokman Uddin and the victims' family members were present at the airport when the bodies arrived.
Funeral prayers for the two victims are scheduled to be held at the village mosque after Asr prayers today, followed by their burial at their respective family graveyards.
