Dhaka:BNP Central Executive Committee member Eliza Zaman has officially submitted her nomination papers for the by-election to reserved women's seat No. 23 in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad. The submission was confirmed by Md Moin Uddin Khan, the returning officer for the reserved seats and EC joint secretary, who stated that the paperwork was filed within the designated timeframe.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Eliza Zaman also serves as a joint convener of Pirojpur district BNP and is the organising secretary for the Barishal division of the party's women's wing, Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal. The Election Commission's schedule outlines that the nomination papers will be reviewed on October 27, with November 1 set as the deadline for withdrawing candidature. The election is planned for November 12, but if Eliza is the only candidate, she will be declared elected without a formal vote.

The by-election follows the resignation of BNP reserved-seat MP Ferdousy Ahmed Mishti on October 1, upon instruction from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Her resignation led the Parliament Secretariat to issue a gazette notification, declaring the seat vacant. This development occurred amidst allegations of Mishti's involvement in an incident of attack, vandalism, looting, and demolition at the Radda MCH-FP Centre, a healthcare facility in Mirpur. Despite the accusations, Mishti has denied any involvement in the event.
