BNP’s China Unit Marks 48 Years Recalling Role in Protecting Democracy

Guangzhou: The China unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) organised a discussion meeting in Guangzhou on Tuesday to commemorate the 48th founding anniversary of the BNP. The event focused on the party's political journey, its establishment, and its role in promoting democracy and safeguarding the rights of the people in Bangladesh.

According to United News of Bangladesh, senior leader of China BNP, Sakhawat Hossain Kanon, presided over the meeting, while Asif Haque Rupu served as the moderator. During the meeting, speakers revisited the history of the BNP's establishment and highlighted the party's 48-year political journey. They emphasized the BNP's contributions to establishing democracy and protecting the rights of the Bangladeshi people.

The discussions also touched upon the political ideology of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman, along with various aspects of his 19-point programme. Notable speakers included Sheikh Mahabubur Rashid, Wali Ullah, Hasmat Ali Mridha, Hossain Mohammad Sakhawat, Masud Ahmed Masud, Md Khorshed Alam Apu, Md Rakibul Islam, Md Nazim Ahmed Nadim, and Mahbub Zaman.

The speakers called for greater unity among the leaders and activists of the China BNP and stressed the importance of strengthening organisational activities. They urged party leaders and activists to actively participate in future BNP programmes.

The meeting was attended by numerous expatriate Bangladeshis residing in China, with many leaders and activists of China BNP joining the programme virtually.
