Kalapara: Training Affairs Secretary of the central executive committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), ABM Mosharraf Hossain, announced that the BNP will implement measures to enhance the economic viability of Payra Port. He emphasized that insufficient steps have been taken since the port's establishment in Kalapara, Patuakhali, and that the BNP is committed to initiating necessary actions to address this issue.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Hossain made these statements during the inauguration of the Television Journalists Forum office in Kalapara. He highlighted that currently, only coal is imported through Payra Port and suggested that an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Kalapara could have bolstered investment and employment opportunities in the region.
In addition to focusing on Payra Port, Hossain addressed the lack of planned investment in Kuakata by the tourism corporation. He pledged that if the BNP is elected to power, it will transform Kuakata into a tourism hub with strategic investments, including the provision of gas connections to facilitate the establishment of industries.
The event was presided over by Television Journalists Forum Convenor Mohsin Parvez, with Kalapara Upazila BNP President Hazi Humayun Sikder and Poura BNP President Gazi Md. Faruk attending as special guests. Leaders and activists from Kalapara Upazila BNP, along with members of the Television Journalists Forum, were also present at the event.
