Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced that the party is planning to hold its council in the near future. He shared this information with journalists following a meeting of the party’s standing committee at the BNP chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, which took place around 8:00 pm.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was chaired by BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The primary agenda was to discuss the steps needed to organize the party council at the earliest possible time. Mirza Fakhrul emphasized that the meeting was focused on organizational matters.
Mirza Fakhrul stated that the party chairman and Prime Minister convened the standing committee meeting to maintain regular organizational activities. The Prime Minister also solicited feedback from the standing committee members on the initiatives undertaken since the government was formed 47 days ago. The members offered suggestions and deliberated on expanding the party’s political and organizational efforts.
When asked about the possibility of holding the council before Eid al-Adha, Mirza Fakhrul clarified that it was unlikely. He indicated that a few months would be needed to complete all necessary preparations. The meeting was attended by standing committee members including Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Iqbal Hasan Mahmod Tuku, Selima Rahman (virtually), and AZM Zahid Hossain. However, Mirza Abbas, another member, was unable to attend as he is receiving treatment at Singapore General Hospital.
