Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that all religious and ethnic groups in the country will have equal status if the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) assumes power. “In the future, all people, regardless of their religion and ethnicity, will have equal status in this country. There will be no division among us,” he asserted.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul Islam made these remarks while addressing the Hindu Representative Conference organized by the Matua Bahujan Samaj Unity Alliance at the Bangladesh Krishibid Institution auditorium. The event was also attended by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who participated virtually from London as the chief guest.

Other prominent figures, including BNP Standing Committee members Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, also spoke at the event. Fakhrul emphasized the BNP’s commitment to building a nation where all people, irrespective of their religious or ethnic backgrounds, would enjoy equal rights.

Fakhrul further highlighted the unity observed during the country’s liberation war in 1971, stating, “In 1971, when we fought the war, there was no difference among us; we, the Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, Muslims, and the people from the hills, all fought together to liberate the country. Today, let us be inspired by that mantra once again and unite to transform this country into a land suitable for all people to live in.”

BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy reiterated the party’s inclusive stance, stating, “BNP is not a party for Muslims only. It is the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, a party for all citizens of the country regardless of minority or majority.”

The event was presided over by Somnath Dey, the Convener of the Matua Bahujan Samaj Unity Alliance, and moderated by Member Secretary and Spokesperson Kapil Krishna Mondal. Joint Convener Somen Shah and Chairman of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Welfare Front, Babu Bijon Kanti Sarkar, also addressed the gathering.
