BNP Reaffirms Dedication to Liberal Democracy: Mirza Fakhrul

Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has emphasized the party’s unwavering commitment to establishing a liberal democratic framework in Bangladesh. Speaking to journalists, he underscored the party’s dedication to following the principles laid down by the late Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul made these remarks after paying floral tributes at the mausoleum of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of his 90th birth anniversary. He highlighted Rahman’s pivotal role in Bangladesh’s political history, noting his contributions to proclaiming the country’s independence and establishing democracy and a multi-party system. Fakhrul cited Rahman’s efforts in promoting press freedom and judicial independence as key steps towards national prosperity.



Discussing the upcoming February 12 election, Fakhrul mentioned the mass uprising against the current government, expressing the BNP’s resolve to rebuild the economy and institutionalize democracy. He reiterated that the party and its allies are committed to implementing the ideals of Shaheed Zia.



Fakhrul also addressed concerns regarding the Election Commission’s ability to conduct the election, acknowledging past issues but expressing confidence in the Commission’s competence. He stated that any concerns raised by the BNP have been communicated to the Commission, and he trusts that the election will be conducted properly.



The event was attended by several BNP leaders, including Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, as well as Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon.
