Dhaka: BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed announced that the BNP plans to repeal the indemnity law in the power sector should they come to power. He asserted that the law, initially enacted for political motives, facilitated widespread corruption and theft within the sector, and emphasized the party’s commitment to abolishing it upon forming the next government.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizvi made these declarations during the conclusion of the ‘CAB Youth Parliament-2025,’ an event organized by the Consumers Association of Bangladesh at Dhaka University’s Faculty of Social Sciences. He highlighted the BNP’s focus on renewable energy as part of its yet-to-be-released electoral manifesto, referencing a 31-point plan proposed by the party’s leader. This plan includes a commitment to plant 25 crore trees and utilize technology to monitor their growth to foster an environmentally friendly nation.

Rizvi also mentioned the necessity of restoring 20,000 kilometers of waterways, such as rivers and canals, to their original state, as articulated by the party chief. He stressed that effective energy management is crucial for environmental health in the context of the country’s socio-economic realities, and therefore, advocated for increased investment in the energy sector.
