Khulna: Leaders of Khulna City Unit BNP exchanged greetings with members of the Christian community on the occasion of Christmas on Tuesday night. Khulna City BNP President Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona visited the church to convey greetings.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona was accompanied by party leaders Chowdhury Hasanur Rashid Miraj, Mizanur Rahman Milton, Musa Hossain Khan, Sheikh Faruk Hossain, Noor Hossain Badal, Abul Kalam Azad, Sultan Mahmud, Richard Rana, Sekendar, Rabiraj, Gazi Anis, Munni Zaman, Shilpi Akter, Nasrin Begum, Shilpi Begum, Ananya Begum, Sahida Akter, and Liza Khatun, among others.
While exchanging greetings, Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona highlighted the significance of Christmas as a lesson of peace, harmony, and humanity. He emphasized that the values of human welfare, love, and sacrifice exemplified by Jesus Christ remain highly relevant in today’s society. Moreover, he expressed that Bangladesh, being a non-communal country, should be a place where people of all faiths coexist peacefully with mutual respect.
Addressing the political climate in the country, he remarked that democracy is currently facing a crisis, with people’s voting rights and freedom of expression being restricted. He urged citizens of all religions and communities to unite in exercising their voting rights to restore democracy.
He also spoke about BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, who is currently undergoing medical treatment. He mentioned that people across Bangladesh and abroad are praying for her recovery and expressed hope that she would soon be well enough to lead the struggle for democracy once more.
Concluding the program, Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona extended heartfelt greetings to the Christian community, expressing hope that peace, harmony, and fraternity would contribute to building a just and democratic Bangladesh. The BNP leaders were warmly welcomed by religious leaders of the church and members of the Christian community during their visit.
