Rangpur: Leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its affiliate organizations have emphasized the patriotic and honest leadership of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. They expressed their views during a discussion and dua mahfil event titled “Zia and Bangladeshi Nationalism,” organized by Zia Sangsad, Rangpur at the BNP office at the city’s Grand Hotel Intersection, in commemoration of the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman on Sunday afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was presided over by Advocate Abdul Qayyum Mondal, a former BNP MP candidate for the Rangpur-3 constituency and a veteran BNP leader. The chief guest, Md Shahidul Islam Mizu, a senior joint convener of Rangpur Metropolitan BNP and a former general secretary of Carmichael College Central Students’ Union, highlighted the contributions of Ziaur Rahman to the development and establishment of democracy in the country.
During the gathering, speakers, including Alhaj Salequzzaman Salek, President of Rangpur Journalists’ Union, Advocate Md Aftab Uddin, General Secretary of Rangpur Bar Association, and Dr Mahmudul Islam Sarkar, former DAB President of Rangpur Medical College, reflected on Ziaur Rahman’s political philosophy and his role in consolidating the country’s independence and sovereignty. They emphasized that patriotism and honesty were the guiding principles of his leadership.
Md Shahidul Islam Mizu noted that Ziaur Rahman’s approach to politics was centered around serving humanity rather than personal gain. He urged everyone to unite in building the nation by embracing Ziaur Rahman’s ideals and the spirit of Bangladeshi nationalism under the leadership of BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
In his remarks, Advocate Abdul Qayyum Mondal stressed the importance of understanding and conveying Shaheed Zia’s philosophy to the public and future generations. He called for the country to be built upon these ideals and the spirit of Bangladeshi nationalism.
The event was attended by various BNP leaders, members of affiliate organizations, teachers, doctors, journalists, and local dignitaries, including Rangpur district BNP member and former councilor Liton Parvez, metropolitan BNP members Selim Chowdhury, Ashfaqul Basunia Azad, Abu Ali Mithu, and Rashed Un Nabi Khan Biplob.
