Dhaka: BNP lawmaker from the Dhaka-8 constituency, Mirza Abbas, today expressed his hope to work for the welfare of his constituents. "I am praying to almighty Allah for my full recovery so that I can work for the welfare of the people of my constituency with greater dedication and concentration," he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ruling party lawmaker participated in the parliamentary session for the first time after completing a lengthy five-and-a-half-month treatment in Malaysia and Singapore. During his speech at the Jatiya Sangsad, Abbas expressed his gratitude to the Speaker of the JS and all parliament members for their support during his health struggles.
Having undergone treatment in Singapore and Malaysia due to a stroke, the lawmaker returned to participate in the parliament session, motivated by the affection and love from his constituents. Abbas, who is also a BNP standing committee member and political adviser to the Prime Minister, informed the session that his treatment is still ongoing.
He expressed gratitude to almighty Allah for enabling him to attend the session. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, opposition leader in the parliament Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, and other treasury and opposition bench lawmakers were also present during the session.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir-Bikram, who chaired the session, greeted Mirza Abbas as he arrived in a wheelchair to sit in the first row of the treasury bench. Abbas extended special thanks to President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, and Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir-Bikram, noting that they regularly inquired about his health, with the Speaker even visiting him in Singapore. "Such humane and sincere attitude to a lawmaker has deeply touched my heart," he remarked.
Abbas also expressed appreciation for the support and sincerity he received, describing it as a shining example of the humane aspect of parliamentary democracy. He began his speech by paying deep respect to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
