Dhaka: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has stated that the primary goal of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government is to create a trade-friendly environment by ensuring law and order across the nation, thereby promoting business activities. ‘Our main objective is to ensure a favorable environment for business by controlling the law and order situation and maintaining overall stability,’ he said during a meeting with the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) board members at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Minister emphasized that maintaining law and order is the government’s top priority to facilitate a conducive atmosphere for business and trade. He noted the government’s efforts to stabilize the market by controlling commodity prices and preventing artificial price hikes. Salahuddin, who is also a Standing Committee member of BNP, mentioned that steps are being taken to dismantle long-standing syndicates that have controlled the commodity sector for the past decade or more.
‘We are working to ensure that commodity prices are not artificially increased. Instead of following traditional methods, we will adopt new and creative approaches to ensure the security of business and trade,’ he added. The minister further stated that the government is committed to meeting both short-term and long-term expectations of the people, with a strong focus on stability and a business-friendly environment throughout the country.
Addressing concerns in the transport sector, the Home Minister affirmed the government’s determination to restore order and eliminate extortion nationwide. Special drives are set to commence initially in divisional headquarters and major cities, with coordinated efforts from the administration and law enforcement agencies.
During the meeting, DCCI President Taskeen Ahmed sought the minister’s cooperation in improving law and order, preventing extortion, and restoring discipline in the transport sector.
