Dhaka: BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman today alleged that his party is facing media trial like ‘one-eleven’ period as a group is out to defame BNP. ‘BNP is being put on media trial as it is gaining massive public support to be victorious in the next general election if it is held in free and fair manner,’ he said while virtually addressing a pre-iftar event at a Gulshan hotel.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman expressed concerns about a renewed conspiracy against Bangladesh, specifically targeting the BNP and nationalist forces. He mentioned that the group’s actions are threatening the country’s independence and sovereignty. Rahman emphasized that this group is being patronized to spread false news with the intent to tarnish BNP’s reputation, akin to the media trial the party faced during the 1/11 political crisis.
Tarique Rahman also commended the efforts of online activists who continue to voice support for opposition leaders and activists. The event saw participation from several BNP leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam, Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, and Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, among others. The BNP Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku presided over the meeting.
During the program, a documentary showcasing BNP’s 31-point reform agenda was screened, highlighting the party’s strategies and proposals for governance.
