DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today announced that if BNP assumes power, it intends to establish a national government in collaboration with all entities that have participated in movements alongside the party. “We have been saying for a long time that if elected, we will not run the country alone. We will form a national government and run the country with those who fought the movement with us,” Fakhrul stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion held in observance of ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’ at the Jatiya Press Club, organized by Bangladesh Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad (BSPP). Emphasizing the importance of government success, he remarked, “We want the government to achieve success, their success means our success. If they fail, we will fail. We don’t want Sheikh Hasina’s return. We don’t want the Awami League’s misrule to come back.”
Fakhrul further elaborated on the BNP’
s vision to foster a democratic environment and outlined the party’s reform plans. “Our main goal is to create a democratic environment in the country and to create space for democracy. We have outlined 31 points of reforms through discussions with political parties,” he mentioned. Criticizing the interim government’s lack of political experience, he added, “In fact, politics is a science, that’s why it is called political science. Is the BNP talking about elections for power? No, it’s not, in fact, if elections are held quickly, it will solve many of the country’s problems.”
Addressing recent student protests, Fakhrul questioned the government’s preparedness, saying, “Was there no information in the government’s intelligence? Couldn’t they have taken measures earlier?” He reiterated the urgency of announcing an electoral roadmap and called for reforms in the police administration and electoral system.
The discussion was presided over by BNP Standing Committee Member and BSPP convener Professor Dr. AZM Zahi
d Hossain, with Kader Gani Chowdhury conducting the event. Other notable speakers included Party’s Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Bangladesh Teachers and Employees Unity Council Chairman Professor Selim Bhuiyan, former president of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) Professor Dr. Azizul Haque, DAB incumbent president Dr. Harun Al Rashid, and journalist Syed Abdal Ahmed.
