Dhaka: Bangladesh Liberal Democratic Party (BLDP) Chairman Shahadat Hossain Selim has officially joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) after dissolving his own party. The announcement was made during a ceremony held at the BNP Chairperson's political office in Gulshan, where Selim's transition was marked with the presence of BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and other party activists.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shahadat Hossain Selim confirmed his decision, stating, "I have dissolved our party and joined the BNP." The move comes after the BNP announced Selim would run as their candidate for the Lakshmipur-1 (Ramganj) constituency in the upcoming 13th national parliament election, contesting under BNP's electoral symbol 'Dhaner Shish'.
BNP Organizing Secretary for the Chattogram division, Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, shared with the media that this decision was made with the endorsement of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. Rahman emphasized that Selim, in his role as the spokesperson for the 12-Party Alliance, had been a significant participant in every democratic movement led by the BNP in the past. This history of collaboration paved the way for Selim's seamless integration into the BNP, as he had already received the 'green signal' from the party.
