Idlib: An explosion at a weapons depot in northwest Syria’s Idlib province killed five people and wounded nine others, security forces said in a statement. The incident occurred in the town of Kafr Takharim, a region previously controlled by rebel and jihadist groups before the overthrow of longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad last December.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the explosion was caused by a warehouse containing missiles and ammunition. The blast happened due to ongoing work at a nearby site, as reported by the Idlib security forces. The explosion resulted in the deaths of five site workers, with nine others sustaining injuries. State television confirmed the casualties but did not specify the cause of the explosion.

Images and videos circulating online depicted extensive destruction, fires, and damage to nearby farmland. Shrapnel from the explosion reached shops and residential buildings, adding to the devastation.

This incident is not isolated, as similar explosions have occurred in the region. In August, four people were killed in a blast at another weapons depot on the outskirts of Idlib. A month prior, at least 12 people lost their lives and approximately 120 were injured in a series of explosions at an arms depot belonging to the Turkistan Islamic Party, a Uyghur-dominated jihadist group, in the town of Maaret Misrin, as reported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor.
