Dhaka:Biman Bangladesh Airlines is set to sign an agreement with Airbus to acquire 10 aircraft, furthering its long-term fleet expansion plan alongside a separate purchase of 25 Boeing aircraft.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the agreement will include four A350-900 wide-body aircraft and six A321neo narrow-body jets. The signing will be conducted by Jrgen Westermeier, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia, and Rumee A Hossain, Biman Board Chairman.
The signing ceremony, titled "Spreading Our Wings Together," is scheduled for 6:30 pm at the Utshab Hall of Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir are expected to witness the event, along with Invest Bangladesh Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury.
This acquisition marks a significant step towards a mixed Boeing-Airbus fleet for Biman, with the Airbus aircraft supporting long-haul and regional operations. The airline previously agreed to acquire 14 Boeing aircraft and later added 11 more to the order, increasing the total Boeing acquisition to 25 aircraft. The Airbus deal will bring Biman's future acquisition pipeline to 35 aircraft, comprising 19 wide-body and 16 narrow-body jets.
Minister Millat has indicated that the delivery of the Airbus aircraft could begin in 2033 and continue through 2036 or 2037, as the airline aims to meet growing capacity demands with additional leasing arrangements before the new aircraft are delivered.
