Dhaka:Biman Bangladesh Airlines has announced the suspension of its flights from Dhaka to Riyadh and Dammam until October 18. This decision comes in response to ongoing attacks on Saudi Arabian airports, which have raised significant safety concerns.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the national carrier cited the security situation at Saudi airports as the primary reason for the suspension, emphasizing the importance of passenger safety. The airline is making efforts to provide alternative travel options for affected passengers, including increased capacity on other routes.
To accommodate travelers impacted by the suspension, Biman has advised passengers needing urgent travel to consider alternative routes through Jeddah and Madinah airports. Additionally, the airline has replaced the Boeing 787 Dreamliner with larger Boeing 777 aircraft on the Madinah route, increasing passenger capacity by 148 seats per flight. Three extra flights have also been arranged on the Jeddah route to further assist stranded passengers.
The ongoing attacks have significantly disrupted flight operations, affecting many international travelers, including Bangladeshi expatriate workers. Biman reiterated that passenger safety remains its top priority and that flight operations to the affected destinations will be reassessed based on the evolving security situation.
Passengers with tickets for the suspended Riyadh and Dammam services are encouraged to contact Biman Bangladesh Airlines sales centers for assistance with ticketing, alternative travel arrangements, and updated flight schedules. The airline will provide further updates as needed.
